Recently, there’s rumors circulating that Ridley Scott has signed on Rik Barnett to the Prometheus 2 series. Supposedly, Rik will have some connection to Shaw. In what capacity, it’s hard to say. I’m not sure if this means that they officially have a script now. Last I heard, Fox and Ridley Scott were struggling to find a new script. Of course, I have my own solution but that’s not what I want to talk about here (besides, you can read it here).
The things I want to address are what ought to go into the sequel, whether my vision is used or not. Prometheus left us hanging with numerous questions, some of which may never be answered in a sequel. However, I hope that they do not cheapen the goal of the movie, which is to tackle the more interesting questions about the universe and man’s role (if any) within it. That should be at the forefront of the movie’s purpose. Beyond that, I really hope the movie handles these issues:
- Defining what the black substance is.
- Actually, arriving at the engineer’s home planet.
- Revealing what happened to the original crew on LV-223.
- Revealing why they intended to assault earth.
- Revealing what the monolithic head in the ampule room was.
- Going into detail about the alien life cycle and the connections to the engineers.
- Unveiling David’s motives in infecting Holloway (especially since this affected Shaw)
- Delving into the engineers as a species.
- Discussing more about Shaw’s personality and background.
At the very least, the next movie should cover those topics. Less important topics that can be covered are:
- The aftermath of the alien that came from the engineer.
- Seeing a return of the Hammerpedes
- The engineer ship’s technology (e.g. cryogenic sleep chambers, fuel, food for Shaw)
- The Weyland corporation aftermath (since the mission did involve probably one of the most important CEOs in the world/galaxy going missing; not to mention costing a few trillion dollars)
- Another connection to the original alien movie with the home planet.
Some aspects I really hope they avoid are:
- No aliens vs predators! This is not that crappy series. Stop being fanboys and get your own franchise.
- Cheap alien themes (would like something new in this series)
- Less questions
Obviously, I attempted to hit most of these points (if you read my script) so I am being biased here. But these are fair points that at the bare minimal they will need to address to make the audience content.
