So I decided to play Clan Games from now on not only for the perks that come with higher level clans but because you need at least a level 2 clan to do the latest feature that’s been gated. It really pissed me off to say the least that a level 2 clan was required because at this rate, it’ll take me at least 4 months before I can even see it. But I’ll rant about this at the end of the post.
Upgrade-wise, not much has changed between both accounts. The biggest thing I managed was starting my Inferno Tower level 4 on my secondary account. The rest of my Builders are just busy and I won’t be able to see anything new in short order. I was debating shelling out $2 for the Book of Heroes on my secondary account just to save it for my Grand Warden but figured it wasn’t worth it right now. Pretty much the only thing worth buying at this point is either a Book of Fighting or a Book of Building, at least for my main account. I need the Book of Fighting to speed up a Log Launcher upgrade while a Book of Building would be good for either my Clan Castle upgrade or finishing off the Workshop level 5 upgrade. Everything else is secondary at this stage until those things are done.
With Clan Games starting, honestly the rewards are terrible for what I can get. Unfortunately, the Book of Fighting reward is the last tier reward that I’m unable to get just because my little clan has two members and are blocked. I don’t really feel like recruiting so it’s just a loss.
But I am doing a lot of Versus battles. The thing about Versus battles is that, despite being the worst aspect of the game, they are pretty fast and you can get a lot of Clan Games points by just rushing through these because you don’t need to wait forever for troops to reload. I have a very simple strategy at my current Builder Base level.
At the moment, both bases had been rushed because I wanted the 6th Builder. So both have maximum Cannon Carts (level 18). I’m actually in a good place with regards to my troop levels on my main account but my secondary account is pretty behind here. The biggest hindrance is having level 15 Boxer Giants which I’ve slowly been pushing to level 16. Level 16 is crucial at having a rushed base because you’ll need as many tanky troops as possible while you grind your way with the flimsy Cannon Carts.
The problem though is that most bases you face are going to have very sturdy walls. Boxer Giants just don’t stand much of a chance against Walls and they don’t tank well believe it or not. So what I’ve found to help out are the Bombers. Since I had been playing this since it came out, my Bombers were around level 10 (my main account has maxed out Bombers so this strategy works even better). That’s just enough to help out your Boxer Giants if you first place the Boxer Giants out in front, followed by your Siege Machine and a few of your Bombers, depending on the base structure. I would send in fewer Bombers if there’s only one wall. But if a base is setup more like an onion then you might want to send in a few at a time. That way you create some sort of funnel.
Your Cannon Carts need to go in later once enough of an opening is established. You don’t want them to go through a narrow opening because the Lava Launcher will annihilate them in short order. Having a wide opening for your troops makes it easier to funnel them closer to your real targets. Also, you want the enemy’s defenses concentrating on your tanks rather than having your units being clustered up for Lava Launchers and other major splash damage type of defenses to destroy. Unless you’re facing a maxed out crazy base, this technique should net you a reasonable amount of damage and fair number of wins. Patience is the key here.
Something to note is that I tried another strategy where I was using Night Witches for a while. The problem I’ve found with Night Witches is that they’re just too flimsy. They end up getting into melee range and most of the Builder Base defenses are actually good and have better range than your offense. So Night Witches, once their bats have been summoned have a terrible habit of getting into melee range. Even with maxed out Night Witches, they just don’t feel good because of their low health, the cooldown on their bat summons, their low number and lack of range. Also, too many air defense systems end up killing off their bats before they can do anything. So I just feel they don’t go well with Boxer Giants and Cannon Carts whereas one Army Camp worth of Bombers does much better, even if they’re underleveled.
Now, let’s talk about the whole new Clan Capital nonsense. I was severely mad when this feature came out. I’m glad that they didn’t arbitrarily add a new Town Hall level just because I want that to be delayed as long as possible so that I can catch up. But the Clan Capital concept to me at least just sucks. It’s bad enough that the Clan Wars thing requires XXX number of people before you can participate. And now they’ve added another feature that makes it impossible for clans like mine to participate in.
And here’s the thing. I understand why this kind of feature is implemented. It’s the whole “let’s get my friends to play” mentality that just doesn’t work. If your friends see this game and haven’t already been playing because they view it as a pay-to-win game, then there’s no reason why they’d ever join your clan. It’s the same when they added the GvG stuff in Lost Ark. It’s great if you have people who are already addicted and want to progress but if the game dies you’re pretty much the only person clutching your own dick. It’s not fun and I don’t want to pay for some hooker to do my masturbation for me.
What made me madder was seeing how some rewards in this current Season were related to the Clan Capital. It sucks that I can’t even access them because they’re gated half a year behind of me being forced to do an activity that requires at least 5 active players to really do.
This thing made me realize how much I hate gaming on the internet. Ever since Blizzard issued out the whole “it’s more fun to play with your friends” mantra, I thought it just poisoned the industry. I saw that the World of Warcraft Classic update with Wrath of the Lich King will take out party finder for the dungeons. At that point, I realized I’ll never play World of Warcraft again. I wonder if their current batch of employees realize that they probably had another user experience team that did enough research to find that a lot of solo players probably were also introverts and never could experience end game content because they hate dealing with jackasses creating groups on their servers. I’m willing to bet a lot of the current batch of employees are all marks that listened to streamers bitch and complain about the “good old days” because World of Warcraft at its height simply had a more invested lore and polish than other games in that genre to make it what it was. It doesn’t mean their system of grinding was any good.
At any rate, I’m getting close to completing at least the first tier of rewards from Clan Games. I really want to get the full 8k points so that I can collect the XP for my clan. It’s going to be a very painful grind to level my clan up since this is the only method I have available to do so. And for the record, I am not recruiting. You have to know me and be reliable before I’d accept anyone and these days that list is tiny, almost microscopic.
